HIGHBROW FILM REVIEW

HIGHBROW FILM REVIEW (By Sangwani Chigezero Chibaka) Highbrow is really epic, a true visualization of the corruption and money laundering 'cashgate' scandal, as portrayed in the motion picture directed by Chawezi 'Chaz' Munthali. With many promising actors, a remarkable storyline and excellent picture quality, I watched the movie with high expectations. The message is powerful, a precise art that refreshes our memories on one of the biggest scandals this country has ever seen on grand theft of public funds. Sergio's role is very well appreciated, a victim of circumstances caught in between a fight bigger than himself. This is seen through the ironical part of his life as he gets carried away by his sudden appointment as Malawi's new budget director, a position he deems the most powerful in the country. However we see him gain confidence and refuse to be a puppet to the senior government officials who only wish to use his position for their personal gain, he

THE FAMOUS KACHERE TREE

Image
By Sangwani Chigezero Chibaka Ages ago, somewhere in the outskirts of Kasungu in Nyasaland (present day Malawi), a drum would sound early in the morning. The sound beckoned students from surrounding villages for lessons under the shade of a huge Kachere tree. Among the many pupils reciting the alphabet under this tree was one young boy, a boy who would one day lead the struggle for independence and become the first President of the republic of Malawi.    The first president of Malawi, late Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda left behind a great legacy. He was a man of vision and dealt with vast challenges towards building a better Malawi which we proudly call “the warm heart of Africa”. Dr H. Kamuzu Banda ruled this country under autocracy, a reason why most people argue about his rule.  Throughout his thirty-year reign both as prime minister and president, a lot of people loved him, on the other hand others feared him. Nevertheless his efforts to shape a better nation cannot go unnoticed, one of

30 GREATEST RAP LINES IN MDUBZ HIP-HOP HISTORY

Image
(By Sangwani Chigezero Chibaka) Malawian hip-hop has really made a lot of progress over the past years, most artists outwardly create rhymes around punch-lines to step up their game.  If you take your time and listen to Mdubz hip-hop you will agree with me that most rappers are really ahead of their time given their fancy lyrics and cunning wordplay.  Most rappers have been feeding us great songs with fine lyrical content, and the industry is booming with various lyrical gemstones. While most rappers have dominated the game with their English bars, others have remained loyal to the vernacular. A good example is Gwamba, he has remained consistent in spitting Chichewa bars such that he is dubbed as the ‘Chichewa Landlord’, all because of his dialect lines which are rich in elaborate rhymes and sneaky puns. In appreciating the great rap skills we have in Mdubz, we have created the following selection of the greatest rap lines of all time. There are a lot of great lines out there, but thes
